Art up high! - Local artist Clive Jackson - until February 12
Clive Jackson's paintings are like beautiful self-contained homages to the artifacts of mid twentieth century 'popular' culture. Meticulous and sensitive attention to rendering, brushstroke and modeling combine to draw the viewer towards the canvas. Technique and craft serve to imbue each selected artifact with a sensitivity and tenderness inherent in the time and care it takes to paint them. The choice and juxtaposition of items that compose the imagery reflect Clive's life as a working musician and his fascination with classic 1950's commercial illustration.

Hundreds of Racers Battle the Elements for Breast Cancer This year’s Seek the Peak relay brought out close to 500 athletes of all ages and fitness levels, all ready for the challenge of tackling the 4,100-foot elevation gain in support of breast cancer.
The race began on the shores of Ambleside Park in West Vancouver, through Capilano Pacific Regional Park and up the legendary Grouse Grind trail, eventually culminating at the Peak of Vancouver.
Over several weeks, racers collected funds for non-profit organization, Rethink Breast Cancer. Rethink Breast Cancer is dedicated to helping young people concerned about and affected by breast cancer through innovative education, research and support programs. To date, Seek the Peak has generated more than $110,000 for Rethink Breast Cancer.
Seek the Peak is not strictly a race for elite athletes. Participants are primarily motivated by the symbolic overcoming of a significant obstacle, reflecting the ongoing fight against breast cancer.

Grouse Grind Mountain Run - Sunday, Sept 21, 2008
THE ONLY FOOTPRINT THAT WILL BE LEFT BEHIND IS FROM YOUR CROSS-TRAINERS
The 18th Annual BMO Bank of Montreal Grouse Grind Mountain Run returns Sunday, September 21, 2008. This Vancouver classic is the true test of your season's training. Whether you are coming out to beat the current course record, to just enjoy the trail, or to raise funds for BC Lung Association, this is an excellent celebration of the end of the summer hiking season.
The Grouse Grind
The Grouse Grind, sometimes called Mother Nature's Stairmaster, is a 2.9 km trail leading hikers up the face of Grouse Mountain. While it is not a long trail, it is a steep and rugged one, rising 853 metres (2,800 feet).
Climb for Clean Air - Do your body, and your planet, good
Grouse Mountain and partners of the Grouse Grind Mountain Run are actively urging participants to think about clean air. As the official charitable event recipient, the BC Lung Association has an inherent interest in ensuring that the air we breathe is clear and clean. As part of our ongoing sustainability vision, Grouse Mountain has enlisted the services of ERA (Ecosystem Restoration Associates) to help us make the BMO Grouse Grind Mountain Run an EcoNeutral™ event. We have calculated the carbon footprint for the event and, in addition to our usual stewardship efforts, we have neutralized this footprint with ERA's EcoNeutral™ offsets. Finally, Oxia will be on hand with samples of personal oxygen canisters to reinforce the undeniable benefits of pure, clean air.
British Columbia Lung Association
The British Columbia Lung Association is an excellent fit with the Grouse Grind and Grouse Mountain. For over 100 years, the BC Lung Association has been dedicated to its mission of promoting and improving lung health. A volunteer-based health charity, the Lung Association depends on public support for its vital programs of lung health research, community and professional education, prevention and advocacy.
The BC Lung Association has all the tools to make your fundraising easy with minimal work involved using very simple user-friendly online fundraising software. They will build a personal webpage to help you track your fundraising progress and are available to personally assist you with any questions. A traditional manual pledge booklet is also available.
You can register in person at Grouse Mountain Guest Services (8am-8pm, daily) or by phone at 604.980.9311, starting August 2008. Find out more by visiting www.grousemountain.com
