Sometime during your visit be sure to incorporate time to enjoy Science World, excellent on a rainy day but also great when the mid day heat is too much for the gang!  Vancouver’s ultimate family attraction is a must do for families with kids under 14.  This summer’s visiting exhibition T. Rex: The Ultimate Predator, let’s you encounter the prehistoric wonders of the late Cretaceous period is proving to be very popular.   If the timing works, enjoy a Legendary White Spot burger, only available in BC!  Located on the ground floor.  Also be sure to set a little time aside to explore the great playground just outside of Science World after you have enjoyed their Ken Spencer Science Park where the impact of the sustainability choices we make everyday can be explored.  The Wonder Gallery is awesome for kids between 1 – 5, and there are plenty of options for interactive exploration in the Sarah Stern Gallery, take time to try at least one of the exploration boxes.   

While time can be fluid on holiday, don’t underestimate the amount of time you might need to enjoy the beauty of Vancouver’s local beaches.  If you choose to incorporate a visit to UBC, British Columbia’s largest university into your vacation, to discover the wonders of the natural world at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, home to more than 2.1 million species of plants and animals, or UBC Botanical Garden and the thrill seekers Greenheart Treewalk, check the tide tables and visit Spanish Banks, when the tide is low.  At low tide, the beach is endless offering some of the best castle building sand anywhere!  The shallow water pools that will dot the kilometres and kilometres of beach are always warm to wade through!  

Stanley Park, “The Jewel of Vancouver” is an absolute must for every family vacation.  Rent bikes through Cycle City Bike Rental, all sizes available, for the quintessential bike ride on the Stanley Park Seawall!  The bike path is one direction and takes you past a water park, a beach, AND an outstanding playground!  Add a visit to the Vancouver Aquarium, recently refreshed with a new 4D movie and even more interactive displays and activities.

On another day, head over to the North Shore and check out iconic visitor experiences at the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and Grouse Mountain.  Truly one-of-a-kind experiences that incorporate so much of what our beautiful Province has to offer.  Explore the Treetops Adventure and Cliffwalk as well as the Bridge at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, and take in the World-Famous Lumberjack Show, truly a show not to be missed, a Birds in Motion Demonstration and say hi to Grinder and Coola, resident Grizzly bears, all experiences are included with your Skyride admission, be sure to check their daily schedule so you can plan accordingly.  If you took public transit or one of the free shuttles provided by these attractions, consider returning downtown via the Seabus, catch the 236 Translink bus to Lonsdale Quay and the Shipyards neighbourhood.  Full of amazing restaurants, shops and many evenings of free live music and beer gardens The Shipyards is great for the whole family and truly offers one of the best views of downtown Vancouver!  Add a visit to MONOVA and The Polygon Gallery , combo ticket available here, to round out your North Vancouver experience.

If heading up to Whistler is on your agenda, and even if it isn’t, and you’ve go a car, consider making a day trip up one of the world’s most beautiful highways, Hwy 99, or the Sea to Sky Highway.  Truly spectacular!  Plan for stop at either, or both, of these two-family oriented experiences that will engage everyone in your party.  About 40 minutes along the drive, you will encounter the Britannia Mine Museum, a national historic site that shares the story of what was once the largest Copper Mill in the British Commonwealth with its visitors.  The Underground Mine Tour and 4D BOOM experience will delight explorers of all ages.  the Sea to Sky Gondola, is next up, check out the vistas of Howe Sound, explore their mountain top pathways and suspension bridge and grab a cool beverage on the 5,000 square foot deck!
